Born and raised in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Derrick developed his passion for film making as he began his career working as a store manager for Blockbuster Inc. Derrick became inspired by the sneak previews, behind the scene footage from movie trailers and blockbuster hits. Derrick has always been enamored by the entertainment industry as he pursued a singing career during his adolescence into adulthood. Derrick has no formal training in filming. He started practicing his cinematography by developing his YouTube reality web series called "Chefn in Atlanta". Although, most of the series was shot on an iPhone, he proved to himself that you could use anything with a lens to film, combined with technique and creativity. Derrick continued his film training as a videographer at his home church in Atlanta, Ga., along with producing videos for weddings and other events. His aspirations of shooting his first film became a reality when he met writer and producer Kyria Williams who produced her own stage plays in St. Louis. Derrick introduced the idea of changing Kyria's stage play "The Wake Up Call" into a screen play, thus giving him an opportunity to test his cinematography and his directorial debut.
